Managing a crisis online
11 October 2009

Several recent corporate reputation crises, from plane crashes to employee hoaxes, have played-out largely online rather than in ‘traditional media’. This has highlighted that incorporating social media channels into a company’s crisis communications response is becoming increasingly important.

Regester Larkin Middle East managing director, Rob Sherwin, will be joined by representatives from companies including Google, Etisalat and MySpace, to share his thoughts on how crises should be managed online at the Social Media Forum in Abu Dhabi on 18-19 October.

Three years since the launch of Regester Larkin (RL) in the UAE, RL’s Middle East office is growing from strength to strength. Providing reputation management consultancy to both private and government sector clients, we have established ourselves as the company to turn to in the GCC for advice and training for crisis preparedness, and the identification and management of local and international reputation risks.

To mark this growth, we recently relocated the office to be based within the new Abu Dhabi media zone, twofour54. Commenting on the move, Middle East managing director, Rob Sherwin, said: “We’re very excited to be joining the rapidly growing community of media and communications companies within twofour54. Our work regularly requires working with journalists and camera crews to deliver realistic crisis training and exercises for our clients, so we look forward to finding associates among the rapidly growing community of companies in the media zone”.

Regester Larkin’s Middle East office covers the whole MENA region from Abu Dhabi supported by a Director – Claire Snowdon – based in Tripoli. Over the past year we have travelled to Qatar, Oman, Syria, Egypt, Tunisia and Libya to work with clients, as well as trips down the road to Dubai.

Regester Larkin Middle East moves to new home

This month Regester Larkin (RL) celebrates its 15 year anniversary as a specialist reputation strategy and management consultancy.

Founded in 1994 by Mike Regester and Judy Larkin, RL set out with the objective of helping organisations to manage their reputation from external threats, crises and during significant internal change.

Ten years on and Andrew Griffin took the helm as managing director and we were joined by chairman, Peter Hehir to help deepen our service to clients and to widen our international reach.

And that we did. Over the last five years, we expanded our offering to include new services such as the formalisation of our work with crisis leaders and broadened our public and government relations services. We have enlarged our team to include more public affairs, corporate communications and sector specialists, and increased our international presence to include wholly owned offices in the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong and affiliates throughout Europe and Asia Pacific.

Looking ahead, managing director Andrew Griffin said: “We will continue to innovate in reputation management, building on our specialist expertise and global reach to provide a truly integrated service for our clients.”
